Boxmoor Cricket Club News story

A Boxmoor CC Winter Update

27 Feb 2023

We just wanted to provide you with an update with what has been happening at Boxmoor CC over the winter as we move towards the spring and the start of the cricket season is not too far away.

Boxmoor CC 5 year plan

  • The club is putting the finishing touches to an updated 5 year plan which is required not only for clubmark purposes but also gives a clear direction of what the club is looking to achieve and how this will be done.
  • Once completed this will be available both in the club and on the website for members and guests to view.
  • This 5 year plan will also form the basis of upcoming committee meetings where the day to day running of the club along with the future plans are discussed.

Cricket facilities

  • We have purchased a repeater scoreboard that will enable anyone sitting to the side of the pavilion to be able to see the scores rather than have to get up and encroach onto the pitch to see it.
  • We will be purchasing Frogbox which is a live streaming technology to allow the broadcast of games. This will mean that Boxmoor CC games can be watched anywhere in the world live!
  • The clubhouse will be getting new tables and chairs to improve the look of the pavilion before the start of the season.
  • The bar has been open on a regular basis this winter with darts matches on a Monday night and Pool matches on a Wednesday night. All members are welcome to come down for a drink.

Membership Cards

  • The club will be introducing membership cards for the start of the 2023 season, these will be given to all playing, junior parent and social members of the club with each member having their own unique membership number.
  • More details will be shared once we are in a position to roll out the membership cards to all members including the full T&C's as producing your card will entitle you to discount at the bar

Social

There is a new social committee who are planning events over the course of a season which include

  • Quiz night
  • Beer festival
  • BBQ night
  • Karaoke night
  • End of season party

Please watch this space for firm details and dates. Why not also recommend to friends, family and neighbours about becoming a social member for just £15!

Sponsorship

Under new Sponsorship Manager, Alex Dukes, this has been a busy area for the club over the winter. The highlights include:

  • December 19 have agreed to extend their sponsorship of the club by a further season
  • CRK windows have agreed a new sponsorship deal which as a club is very much appreciated.
  • The Frogbox technology as mentioned above will have a new sponsor which will be announced soon.
  • Brightwell Ariels will be sponsoring Grand Union Girls which is Boxmoor CC's partnership with Hemel Town CC for Girls cricket.
  • Two further sponsors are in the pipeline which should be announced before the start of the season.

If anyone is interested in a sponsorship package at Boxmoor, please contact Alex Dukes.

Playing & Training Kit

With the start of the season just a number of weeks away, the club does have both playing and training kit in stock and available. All players that represent the club in both Saturday & Sunday league fixtures must wear the current Boxmoor shirt with the new December 19 logo.

Junior Cricket

It has been a busy time for the junior section of the club with winter training underway at Hemel Hempstead School for the boys and Longdean School for the girls.

  • The managers of the boys have been busy promoting cricket to all schools in the Hemel Hempstead area
  • All Stars registration has come out in the last week where we will look to promote cricket for boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 8 to give cricket a go.
  • The girls training sessions have been well attended and for the first time this summer they will have an all blue playing kit rather than having the different white playing shirts of Boxmoor, Hemel and Abbots Langley.

Senior Cricket

  • The club is delighted to welcome back to the club Matt Smalley-Harris and Ben Mannering. They will undoubtedly add to the talent we already have in place.
  • We will have 3 teams in the Herts Saturday League and on Sunday, for the first time in a few years, we will be rejoining the Chess Valley League. There will also be a number of friendlies on a Sunday as well.
  • With 3 new captains in place (Saturday 1st and 3rd team as well as Sunday 1st team) and the enthusiasm they will be bring to the role, we are quietly confident of having a successful season

A request to all players:

With the season not too far away, we would like all players to get involved in helping the club have a successful season. You can do this in the following ways:

  1. Winter training takes place at Choice Cricket Centre in Redbourn every Tuesday until April from 8:00pm-9:00pm. Please make every effort to attend to get your eye in for the season ahead.
  2. Reach out to the Captains to let them know your intentions around playing for the season to enable them to plan. Availability is going to be key and we want to hit the ground running from the first weekend of the season. You can already log dates you can or can't play on the website!
  3. If you know of any players who would like to join Boxmoor, they would be most welcome. Please let Nick Cottrell know.

If you have any ideas that you think would improve the club, please feel free to speak to anyone on the committee.
