As referenced at the 2022 AGM, we have been reviewing the existing system for senior cricket membership subscriptions. This review has taken place with the following reasons in mind:
- Existing method has become complex with 5 different methods of payment
- Increased debtors due to confusion of annual subs cost or missed collection - impacting costs due to the club
- High levels of maintenance needed by the club treasurer, team secretary and captains
- Lack of understanding of costs compared to other local clubs
As part of this review we researched the subscriptions of a full season with our 7 nearest clubs, and the average cost was c.£260. We also reviewed subs and match fees for the 2022 season by player to see that on average our most regular adult players (9+ games) paid £245.
From the review and discussions by committee members we have decided to trial a new method for 2023 in the hope that this will be simpler for everybody - players/selection committee/treasurer - with a cost which is below average locally. This method will in the most part remove individual match fees, and just be an annual membership fee.

*Should a player on a Light membership reach the 8 game limit, they can either upgrade their membership or pay £15 match fees for each additonal match. |
^Limited members would have to upgrade to another membership once 4 games are reached to continue playing. |
Concession is classed as students or holders of a Dacorum Card
A Full member is as described in the club constitution |
The annual fee can be paid as a single payment or through split scheduled payments throughout the year, depending on your preference - for example, for an Adult membership you could pay £20 per month (October to September, matching the clubs financial year) using our direct debit system. We hope this will help players from having large outgoings during the cricket summer.
For the vast majority of our members for the same number of games played, the total annual cost will remain the same or slightly reduce (on average by £1.30 per game vs 2022 cost), whilst for the remaining minority of players, the cost increase would equate on average about £2.45 per game. Non full members who play just a handful of games a season will see the cost increase for the few times they get to benefit from our well kept facilities and lower bar prices compared to local pubs.
We have calculated, based on 2022, that this method would effectively break even financially for the club rather than raise income - however we hope it removes the risk of debtors, thus recouping money lost, and also encourages players to be more regularly available. The committee will review this system towards the end of the 2023 season to understand if it will continue or need refinement for future years.
In addition, it’s also been agreed that all full members will be given 1 share into the clubs 100 club to align to our junior membership - providing the chance to win cash prizes each month.
We will share further details in how to register for the 2023 season in due course. We do also appreciate that this scenario won't be perfect for all, and some will prefer the previous subscription method - but we hope you understand our reasons for reviewing and trialing this are for the best interests for the club as a whole.
Should you have any questions or concerns please raise these with our Head of Cricket (Nick Cottrell) or another member of the club committee.
Please note, this review does not impact Junior Cricket membership or their match fees in Senior Cricket matches.
