Boxmoor Cricket Club News story

Boxmoor CC cricketing update (belated from Feb)

01 Mar 2020

Good Afternoon All

Welcome to the slightly belated February news updates on all things cricket at Boxmoor.

  • The Saturday league fixtures are now on the website so that members can start to log their availability ahead of the initial matches. Our first game is a friendly at Watton-at-Stone on 25 April followed by an inter-club match at the Moor on 2 May. The league season starts on 9 May.
  • The Sunday and Blackbirds fixtures are still being finalised, so I will add these to the website asap.
  • Selection night will be moving back to Tuesdays, to coincide with our outdoor training sessions.
  • Unfortunately, due to a fixtures scheduling error by the Herts and Mid-Bucks leagues, the 3rd XI will not be able to play at Bourne End this year. Hopefully, I will be able to confirm the 3s 2020 home in the next update.
  • Our senior registration event and pre-season social is confirmed at the pavilion from 3pm on Saturday 11 April. Food will be provided, and the bar will be open. Plus we’ll be kicking off the start of a darts mini-league so bring your arrows. Registration can also be completed at the inter-club match on 2 May.
  • We’re running into the last few weeks of winter nets at Choice Cricket centre on Tuesdays from 8pm to 9pm. Attendance has been down on last year and as the season is fast approaching, please do come up and work off the rust before the season starts.
  • Our outdoor summer training sessions start on Tuesday 5 May at 6pm and will run every Tuesday (NOT THURSDAYS AS WAS THE CASE IN 2019). I will circulate a training programme before the sessions start so that players can see in advance the skills/drills each session will focus on. As with last year, these sessions will cost £3 per player; a cost which is heavily subsidised by the club.
  • As you may have seen, the club is running summer camps for junior cricketers in July and August. This is a new initiative for the club and could provide a good boost to the juniors section and our community profile. If anyone is interested in supporting these camps, or getting involved in coaching (the club will subsidise coaching badges), please let me or Nick Harper know.
  • The league had its AGM on Monday 24 February, which was remarkably dull. If anyone wants the minutes in due course, please let me know. A captains meeting is being held on 21 April; I will update everyone on the outputs from that meeting in my April circular.

One of my aims for my time as Head of Cricket is to increase feedback from the playing membership and strengthen the opportunities for members to participate in the running and direction of the club. To that end, if you have ideas or feedback concerning the club, please feel free to contact me either via kmckay124@btinternet.com or 07966 279 882.

Best wishes

Keith McKay
