Hemel Hempstead v Boxmoor Cricket Club Under 15s on Thu 30 Apr 2009 at 6 pm
Boxmoor Cricket Club Lost on wickets lost rule
Match report
The weather was bright for the first game of the season. Boxmoor, captained by Alex Dukes decided to field first. Boxmoor's opening attack managed to contain Hemel's batsmen in the fisrt half of the innings. Two run outs in successive overs from Hasseeb Shah slowed the batting side's progress, but soon the scorebard started ticking. Catches from Stanley Harper (bowled Luke Marsh) and two in successive balls from Ryan Smart (bowled Stride)disrupted the home side the last catch dismissing Hemel captain Doodson, who had batted for 19 overs. Some good death bowling held Hemel to a par score of 89 runs.
Hemel's pacy bowlers pinned down Boxmoor's openers and dimsissed them quickly and cheaply. the light was fading, but it didn't stop debutant Ryan Smart from scoring runs all over the park. Hemel's spinner caused havoc in the middle order, claiming four wickets. but Ryan carried on hitting until being caught at Long On for 41, over half of Boxmoor's total score at the time.
Runs began to tick over and in the final overs, Prateek Malhotra and Luke Marsh
made the target feasible. 3 runs were needed in the final over, but Boxmoor couldonly scramble two in the gloom. A tied match, with league rules mean that Boxmoor had lost because they had taken fewer wickets than Hemel.
