Boxmoor Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI v Frogmore on Sun 27 Jul 2008 at 2pm
Boxmoor Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets
Match report
With summer holidays and the Northwood Town 6 a side taking place, this Sunday meant that the Sunday first eleven had to field a young side with 5 players under the age of 18, 3 of those being part of the Under 15 set up. The toss was won by Frogmore who elected to bat on a warm humid day. Luke decided to throw the new ball to Dan Cottrell, who bowled some nice balls in his short spell, but struggled to control the swing of the ball and the aggressive start from the Frogmore openers. Opening at the other end was the Sunday side's leading wicket taker Bilal Mohammed who also struggled early on with the swing in the humid conditions.
Replacing Dan was Tish De Alwis, having flown in from Malaga no less than an hour and a half before the game. The 4 cans of Red Bull seemed to have the desired affect and the added pace meant that the quick start was stemmed. With the added pressure Tish got a deserved wicket with a nick to Adam Cullinane behind the stumps. At the other end Luke was forced to bowl himself for a spell which started relatively well and economical, taking the wicket of Frogmore's free scoring opener with a stinging catch by Billy. Luke's bowling spell became more erratic after drinks and he made a decision to bring Sam Stride into the attack, to counter the pace that Tish was giving at the other end. Sam bowled a good line and length with good flight in his 8 over spell which produced 2 wickets, including a 'steepler' claimed by Adam with the gloves.
Tish managed to bowl his 8 over's straight in the hot and humid conditions, and was very effective in keeping the score down in tandem with Sam and Luke. With Matt Larkins due to bowl the final 8 overs from the pavilion end, Azad was given an over to enable it, and managed to take a wicket in his over and also conceded only one run on the final ball.
Pop bowled well and got 3 well earned wickets which included a catch by Luke diving forwards and a stumping by Adam. Billy also bowled at the death with Pop and now managed to control the ball which was not swinging so erratically and managed to claim another important scalp. Frogmore finished their innings on 204-9 after their 40 overs, which after a quick start was a total that the Boxmoor side could be happy with.
It was important that key batsmen Luke and Adam got off to a good start, which they managed to do with a partnership of 65 before Luke played round one and was bowled off his pads. This then bought Owen Adams to the crease and he did well in a supporting role to Adam, who had rekindled the form that got him so many runs last season, initially bringing up a 50 partnership with Owen still on 1. Adam although suffering from the heat was dispatching the ball all over the pitch, and soon he had passed his ton. Owen then started to punish the bad balls and continued to be a great foil for Adam, with the Frogmore players tiring due to the heat and seeing the game slip out of reach. Boxmoor reached the target in the 33rd over with Adam unbeaten on 132 and Owen having hit the winning runs 20 not out, and an unbeaten partnership of 142.
In summary, a good win and a great team performance in the field from all in the warm humid conditions, and for sticking well at the task in hand, and also some great individual efforts from Adam and Owen for seeing us through to an emphatic win by 9 wickets, and great to keep the winning streak going to 4 games in a row.
