Boxmoor Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI v Full Tossers on Sun 20 Jul 2008 at 2pm
Boxmoor Cricket Club Won by 26 runs
Match report
Boxmoor Sunday XI extended their winning streak to 3 games with a fine performance against Full Tossers. In a rematch against Full Tossers the captains decided that Boxmoor would bat first on a green slow wicket. With Luke Hinton and Ian Gorringe strolling to the middle together with both batsman in good form, only for Luke to mistimed a pull shot and end up back in the bowlers hands for a caught and bowled for 0. Next to the crease was Chris Dunscombe keen to score some runs after last weeks nought, Chris looked good for his 4 runs before being trapped in front out LBW. Matt Chapman came to the crease looking to follow on from last weeks impressive knock and again looked in good form and building a good partnership with Iggy of 30 runs, before birthday boy Iggy got one that kept low and another LBW decision. Next over Matt followed Iggy back to the pavilion after playing on for 7. The next 4 wickets fell for just 10 runs with Vince Warburton scoring 1, Aaron Hinton 4, Dave Young golden duck and Owen Adams a duck. With only 66 runs scored and 8 wickets down, things looked precarious a fantastic 50 partnership from Tishan De Alwis and Bilal Mohammed and taking the score to a more respectable 116-9. With only 2 overs remaining John Scott joined Billy at the wicket to try and take the score up to a more defendable total. In entering the final over Billy went all out including a 6 to take him to 44 with 4 balls remaining a 2 followed on the next ball and then 2 dot balls leaving 1 ball remaining and Billy on 46 not out. The final ball saw Billy hit the ball towards the extra cover boundary and with the youngest and oldest members of the side run a 3 leaving Billy on 49 not out and setting a target of 136 for 9.
Following a Boxmoor first (Dave Young preparing a tea), Boxmoor emerged with the task of defending a small total. An opening bowling partnership of Dave Young and John Scott, with El presidente Scott only going for 12 runs from his 8 overs and Dave taking 3 wickets from his 8 overs. Chris Dunscombe bowled another impressive spell at the point when Full Tossers stroke maker was trying to cultivate runs and take the game to Boxmoor, and Chris took a wicket with his first ball with a wonderful catch from Scotty. Billy also did well to keep the runs contained in his first 4 overs. Following Billy was Tishan who with added pace and with good control managed to take the all important wicket with a brilliant yorker and putting the game firmly in Boxmoor's control. Once Chris had finished a spell of 7 overs, Billy returned to the attack and produced a magnificent leg break to take his third wicket in the match, and effectively seal the match for Boxmoor. This left Full Tossers with their 2 French exchange students at the crease before Luke spoiled their fun by taking a sharp diving reaction catch.
Once again I can only praise everyone's efforts in this performance which with a small target to defend all the players backed up the bowlers and fielded well, and a massive well done to Billy in today's performance with his 49 not out and taking 3 wickets. Another good win on a Sunday and some good individual performances but more importantly a good team effort
