Boxmoor Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Ware on Sat 28 Jun 2008 at 1.30
Boxmoor Cricket Club Won 8 runs

Match report (From Ware CC's site, with thanks) We turned up at Boxmoor brimming with confidence, as the side put out was one of the strongest so far this season. Boxmoor’s season had not been that great and with the news from their skipper that they only had 13 the night before to fill two teams, our spirits rose even higher.

They won the toss and decided to bat on what looked like a fairly good wicket. We started off well, taking there opener without him troubling the scorers. Gavin Wren bowled with real pace and on any other wicket (especially ours) he would have surely taken more wickets. Troy was also troubling their batsman with his late swing and his figures showed it. The plan seemed to be working well as at one stage they were 85 – 8 and it looked like an early bath. Phil Macurdie’s debut for the one’s started well with bowling figures of 11 – 4 – 22 – 2 and with Jay Webster bowling tight aggressive lines we had them over a barrel. In steps their one player, Perry, who I must say batted excellently, the ball did beat him quite a few times but when the opportunity arose he put the ball away with vigour and scored a very good 53 in the circumstances. Boxmoor did what they need to and used up 45 of their allotted overs and hobbled to 149.

The Ware innings looked to start well, with Tom Thoday and Darren Patel looking comfortable and scoring of pretty much every ball, we had 55 overs to chase the total, there was no rush. Darren, fell to a full in swinging slower ball for 1, which brought in Jay Webster. Tom and Jay carried on the chase, Jay not looking his best with the bat but getting the job done. Tom then was adjudged LBW trying to sweep, what looked like a leg side full bunger. Wickets then proceeded to fall at regular intervals as we tried not to panic, Jay managed to struggle to 54 then was caught out to a great catch to the JD look a like but the only real resistance came from Troy Forrest and Simon Green at the end, they took us to within 10 of our target when Simon was caught. No panic, we still have 25 odd overs to get this!!! Their skipper brought him self on to bowl and with his first ball Troy miss hit it straight to Jamie Don. Game over…On an another day Troy would have smashed the ball out of the ground, on another day we would have won the game, but alas we didn’t…
