Abbots Langley III v Boxmoor Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 26 Jul 2008 at 1.30
Match was Drawn
Match report
On a really hot /scorching day, finally the BCC skipper manages to lose a toss and be asked to field as a punishment. With the advent of the holiday season meant a depleted batting and bowling attack and 4 colts it the side, which meant that even Chris Wright was asked to bowl him loppy off-spinners. The bowling was opened by Peter Lockley and Majid Iqbal, who should have had both the openers back in the hut early on, but for dubious umpiring decision were given not out (both were caught behind). However, both batsmen were initially kept under check. However, in the hot condition, as bowlers tired, the Abbots Langley batsmen with the help of their umpires and legs started to get away, despite some late order wickets for Matt Larkins (3-46) and Majid Iqbal (3-44) meant some respectability for the effort put in by the team. Abbots Langley, declared their innings at 234 for 7 off 51 Overs. It needs to be commended that the 4 colts despite the hot and tiring conditions in the field carried themselves beautifully and energetically.
In reply, Boxmoor lost their first wicket (Hammond) early on for 1, before Majid Iqbal (38) and Chris Wright (25) started a rebuilding with a partnership of 65 in 20 overs, before Chris attempting a pull off a chinaman was bowled through his legs. Iqbal soon followed afterwards giving an easy catching practise to square leg. Before, the colts Jonathan Jones (15) and Alex Dukes (16), played some delightful strokes to help the score along. However, BCC losing wickets at regular intervals were never in the hunt and with Peter Lockley playing a delightful innings of 0 not out, during his 10 overs stay in the middle, helping ensure that BCC atleast came out of the fixture with a draw with the help of Sam Stride, who had to bat out the last 5 balls of the match, which included a delightful edge (he contests this) between slips and gully for 4. BCC ended up with a score of 168 for 9 off their 49 overs.
