Match report A decision that split the team was a bold and ultimatley sucessful one. Winning the toss and bolwing first was a real all or nothing tactic. With a strong line up both Captain and Vice captain were confident of success. Vince Slade bowled, as usual, a great line missing the outside edge of the Abbotts Langley batsman by millimetres he still managed to bag himself a 4 wicket haul off a 18 over spell. Making his Saturday debut Ravi Giriyappa bowled well in a 12 over spell picking up 2 overs for himself. Amit Mahahjan making his return this season picked up 3 wickets, the bowling team was rounded off by Akmal Fazal got his wicket for 11 runs. All bowlers were backed up with a really good effort in the field with catches being taken and great support for each other. In all a target of 85 to win for the first time this season had made the bowling first choice the correct one, however it seemed a lot of runs as some early wickets made the chase a very nervous one. Keith Hammond 15 runs was a steady start but was caught by a good catch at short cover, Richard Ballard took the attack to the bowling scoring 18 before being given out LBW, another couple of quick wickets and the captains mood was darkening as he walked to the wicket with the team still needing 30 odd runs. the loss of Amit to a smart catch at slip left 2 wickets and 29 runs to go with lots of overs left.
In what must have been an extremely nervous wait for Vince Slade waiting to bat at 10, and for the rest of the team, Akmal Fazal showed that he has a solid defence batting out a maiden over with a fielders close around him. The winning runs were hit off the 2nd ball of the 25th over by a jubilant captain, however there was a touch of luck as the wicketkeeper for Abbotts Langley got a good hand to the guided shot down through slip stopping the 4 but not stopping the 2 runs needed to win the match and sparking a mixture of relief and celebration for the 2's.
