Potton Town II v Boxmoor Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 15 May 2010 at 1.00pm
Boxmoor Cricket Club Won By 4 Wickets
Match report
Potton Town won the toss and decided to bat first on what looked like a good batting track. Tight bowling restricted Potton Town's early progress, but the change of bowling in the 13th over led to the fall of the first wicket. Philip Jackson playing in his match for the club took a wicket with his very first ball. As their innings continued Potton Town were never really able to push on and make a large score however they did post a very respectable 202 - 5 in their 53 overs largely due to an excellent 94 not out from their number 3.
The pitch which looked hard played perfectly well, but if anything the ball kept low despite the best efforts of the bowlers. However the Potton Town score looked about 30 runs short of a defendable target.
In response an early wicket with the score yet to reach 20 kept the Potton Town bowlers interested, however an excellent 42 from M.Berwick kept us above the required rate and despite the loss of 4 more wickets, a match winning 91 not out from I.Gorringe steered us home to a second consecutive league victory, with more than 5 overs to spare.
Having been set over 200 to win, it was essential that one of our senior players performed with the bat, Iggy's 91 not out was as well paced an innings as you could expect to see, always looking to score and keep the scoreboard ticking over with a mixture of hard hitting and quick running, Iggy was always applying pressure to both the bowlers and fielders. It must also be noted that he had the overs to reach his century but put the team before himself to ensure he was still batting at the end to see us home.
69 points from our first 3 league games is a very respectable start to the season, next week see's newly promoted Pirton visit the Moor, Pirton have also made a good start to the season and next weeks game promises to be a good one.
